Because counterpublics operate despite the odds of dominant publics not taking a multiplicity of realities and needs into account, engaging with counterpublics calls us to reflect on how we engage meaningfully. We are implicated, and for this reason, we engage. This comes with challenges and frictions. Decisions orbiting what locations to choose, what spaces to interact with, how to receive consent, how to anonymize, and what tools to use – all reflect the nature of stories and storytellers.
